TOPIC: THE FAITH OF MAN AND THE FAITHFULNESS OF GOD II
BIBLE READING: ROMANS 3:1-8
VERSE FOR MEDITATION: 1 CORINTHIANS 1:9 GW
God faithfully keeps his promises. He called you to be partners with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
An apostle once said, “Faith is man’s to God, but faithfulness is God’s response to man.” The Bible said of Sarah, “By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed… because she judged Him faithful who had promised.” (Heb. 11:11). If faith comes by hearing the word of God, then it means that Sarah acted by the word of God; that was her response to God. And the reason for this was because she had judged Him to be responsive to man.
The Bible says that if we have no faith in God, He remains faithful; for He cannot deny Himself (2 Tim. 2:13). It is always in God’s nature to respond to man, even though we fail in our own part. Our faithlessness can never make His faithfulness without effect, for our God is ever faithful.
Jesus Christ said, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” (Jn. 10:27). But even when a sheep fails to respond to its shepherd, the shepherd will not fail to respond to the missing sheep (Lk. 15:3-7).
I know you’ve been told this story of a father who was dressed in white, and his son who had played in the mud came running to him to hug and welcome his father home, his father will avoid him so that his garment will not get stained and must insist that he is washed first before he could embrace him. But that is not a perfect illustration to judge God’s faithfulness. In Luke 15, the prodigal son was coming from the pig’s pen to meet with his father; so of course he was literally dirty, but the Bible said that his father saw him from afar and ran to embrace him.
Yes, His eyes are too pure to behold sin, that was why He responded in love towards us (Hab. 1:13; Jn. 3:16; Rom. 5:8). That was why He turned His back on Jesus when our sins was placed upon Him (Matt. 27:46), God will always respond to man, because He is faithful.
When Adam and Eve sinned, God still wanted fellowship with them, but they hid themselves from Him (Gen. 3:8). That was what Isaiah the prophet prophesied, “But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.” (Isa. 59:2). It is that sin in us that is making us not to respond to God in faith, not that He is avoiding us. For our God has been judged faithful.
Romans 8:32 NKJV
He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?
1 Thessalonians 5:24 NKJV
He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.
PRAYER:
DEAR HEAVENLY FATHER, I’M SORRY BECAUSE OF MY FAITHLESSNESS; NOT RESPONDING TO YOUR LOVE. BUT I THANK YOU THAT YOU REMAINED FAITHFUL. PLEASE HELP ME IN CHRIST’S NAME. AMEN!
DECLARATION:
I HOLD FAST THE CONFESSION OF MY HOPE WITHOUT WAVERING, FOR HE WHO PROMISED IS FAITHFUL.
