SEPTEMBER 24, 2022.

TOPIC: THE WORKINGS OF GOD I (JEHOVAH ELOHIM)

BIBLE READING: GENESIS 1:1-31

VERSE FOR MEDITATION: GENESIS 2:4 ESV

These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens.

Our Father has so many names; these names reveal His power, authority and holiness. He reveals Himself to us so we can come to understand the many personal characteristics of Himself. The better we understand and know the names of God, the more personal He becomes to us and as we pray, we can call on His name that corresponds with our need.

The names of God were revealed to men based on their relationship or encounter with Him; His workings reveal His identity and His name. For example, the first person to give God a name was Hagar, Sarah’s maid after her encounter with the presence of God, she called Him, “El Roi”, which means, “You are the God who sees me.” (Gen. 16:13). The writer of the book of Genesis, Moses, when writing the book called Him, “Elohim”, because of His encounter with God and what God revealed to Him on the Mount (Ex. 33:18-23). And Elohim simply means, “Supreme One” or “Mighty One”.

The name “Elohim” is the plural form for “Eloah”, which has its primitive root from the word, “el”, which means “strength” or “mighty”. “Eloah” simply refers to as “a deity” or a “Supreme One”.

“Elohim” is not only used to refer to as the Almighty God in scripture, but also as the dead god too.

In Hebrew, singular is one, duo is two but plural is referred to as “more than two”. And since “Elohim” is a Hebrew plural word, then it refers to more than two deities. This leads us to the study of the Godhead.

1 John 5:7 NKJV

For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.

From the above text, the Godhead is three co-equal and self-existent Being. But before we press a little further on this, we call this “Elohim”, Jehovah Elohim, to differentiate the Almighty God from all other dead gods.

In our Bible reading we see God saying, “Let Us…” showing the plurality of the Godhead. The phrase, “Let Us” also show the unity that exist between the Godhead.

Colossians 1:16, 17 Emphasis Mine

For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or power. All things were created through Him and for Him.

And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

John 1:1-3 Emphasis Mine

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

He was in the beginning with God.

All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

The above texts was speaking of our Lord Jesus Christ who is the Word of God. So all the speaking of the workings of things into creation were through Jesus. The Spirit of God is what brought about the manifestation and the Father was the channel through which the Word (the Life) and the Spirit flow from (Jn. 6:63).

Jehovah Elohim speaks about our Lord God who exists as three distinct Beings who are co-equal yet inseparable. Through the Godhead that all things consist and we have our being.

PRAYER:

JEHOVAH ELOHIM, WE KNOW THAT WE CAME OUT OF YOU, PLEASE HELP US TO STAY PERPETUALLY IN YOU. AMEN!

DECLARATION:

FOR IN HIM WE LIVE, AND MOVE AND HAVE OUR BEING.
