THE RHEMA WORD FOR TODAY

SEPTEMBER 25, 2022.

TOPIC: THE WORKINGS OF GOD II (EL-SHADDAI)

BIBLE READING: GENESIS 17:1-8

VERSE FOR MEDITATION: GENESIS 35:11 NLT

Then God said, “I am El-Shaddai- ‘God Almighty.’ Be fruitful and multiply. You will become a great nation, even many nations. Kings will be among your descendants!

The workings of God reveal who God truly is. The name “Elohim” reveals God as the mighty One, which is also used to refer to other dead gods. But we saw yesterday that the workings of Elohim do not just reveal God as Elohim, but as Jehovah Elohim; this reveals His self-existent nature as the Creator.

The name El-Shaddai simply refers to “God Almighty” or “The all-power God.” This name reveals more than “Elohim” as “the mighty One,” it reveals God’s sovereignty as the God Almighty.

The name “El-Shaddai” is a Hebrew name for God. “El” refers to “Elohim,” which means “the strong One.” “Shad” is a Hebrew word for “breast”, and “Dai” is a Hebrew word for “sheds forth.” When put together it means, “the breasted One who nourishes and supplies with more than enough,” that is, “the all-sufficient One.”

The phenomenon as God being the breasted One gives the idea that God is completely nourishing, satisfying and supplying His people with all their needs as a mother would her child. He freely gives nourishment and blessing. He is our sustainer.

We know Abraham as the Father of faith, and we say that, “It was by faith that Abraham obeyed…” (Heb. 11:8). But do you know that it was primarily because he believed God that was why the Lord counted him as righteous (Gen. 15:6; Rom. 4:3; Gal. 3:6).

Romans 4:5 NLT

But people are counted as righteous, not because of their work, but because of their faith in God who forgives sinners.

And it was his faith in God that prompted him to obey God (Jam. 2:21-24).

Abraham had his flaws when walking with God that should not warrant God’s justification and righteousness. God told him to leave his country, his relatives and his father’s family, and that he should go to the land that he would show him (Gen. 12:1), but he left with his nephew Lot (Gen. 12:4, 5).

Later, he got separated from Lot and God told him this time that his servant will not be his heir, for he would have a son of his own who would be his heir (Gen. 15:4). It was at this point that he believed God (Gen. 15:5, 6). But guess what? Abraham had Ishmael from Sarah’s servant, Hagar (Gen. 16:1-16).

And so for about 13 years, God seemed to be silent, and after those years of silence, God showed up again and revealed Himself as the El-Shaddai (Gen. 17:1). He did not come with Abraham’s past mistakes or condemnation, but he came with a blessing, “And I will multiply you exceedingly.” (Gen. 17:2). This is who El-Shaddai is, the One who freely blesses and sustains us. Just as how a mother loves her child, the Father’s love is beyond the mother’s love (Isa. 49:15).

PRAYER:

EL-SHADDAI, WE KNOW THAT WE HAVE NOT LOVED YOU ENOUGH, AND YOU’VE NOT CEASED TO LOVE US IRRESPECTIVELY. THANK YOU FATHER, AND PLEASE HELP US TO SUSTAIN OUR LOVE FOR YOU. AMEN!

DECLARATION:

OUR FATHER LOVES US, AND WE REJOICE IN THAT LOVE!
