TOPIC: THE WORKINGS OF GOD V (THE NAME OF JESUS)

BIBLE READING: PHILIPPIANS 2:5-11

VERSE FOR MEDITATION: ACTS 4:30 GW

Show your power by healing, performing miracles, and doing amazing things through the power and the name of your holy servant Jesus.

Today we will be concluding on this topic; the workings of God. From the New Testament to this present dispensation, all that God is doing is in Christ Jesus.

In Hebrews 4, Jesus Christ is the promise of God’s rest (Ref. Matt. 11:28, 29). So God has ceased working (Heb. 4:10), but all His present workings are in Christ Jesus.

We see that in Elohim, all things came into being. Now in Jesus, He makes all things new (Rev. 21:5).

In El-Shaddai, we have our sufficiency. Now in Jesus, His grace is ever sufficient for us (2 Cor. 12:9).

In Yahweh, we have our dependency. Now in Jesus, we can lean on Him (Jn. 13:23) and fully depend on Him too (2 Cor. 1:12; Col. 1:29).

In Jehovah Rapha, we have our healing. Now in Jesus, we have our healing (Matt. 8:16, 17; 1 Pet. 2:24).

That’s why Jesus Christ said, “… whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.” (Jn. 16:23). God gave us the name of Jesus which is above every name; that name is the summation of all of His name. So instead of going through the rigorous stress of knowing the hundreds of names of God and to pray them through each situation, we have been given just a name that has all those names encapsulated in it, the name of Jesus. Remember, “…w hatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.” (Jn. 16:23).

The name of Jesus in itself is not a magic word nor powerful. The name God gave us which is above every name is not just the name of Jesus but the office He represents.

Jesus is a person, but the Christ is an office. That ‘Christ’ was actually the name that God gave us that is above every name. That’s why you can see people claiming that their name is Jesus, but never can you see anyone claiming that his name is Christ. Anyone who claims to be Christ is called the antichrist (Matt. 24:5; 1 Jn. 2:18). So the name that is above all names is the office of Jesus- the Christ.

Now, that “at the name of Jesus” is not a magic word or a passcode, it is not, “at the mention of the name of Jesus,” as many have assumed it to be. “At the name,” speaks about a location; a place of authority.

The Complete Jewish Bible puts it this way, “In honour of the name given Yeshua.” And also The Passion Translation puts it more beautifully, “The authority of the name of Jesus.”

In Acts 2:21 and Romans 10:13 that say, “…whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” This does not to say, “Call the name…” To ‘call on’ is different from to ‘call.’ ‘Call on’ is an idiomatic expression which means, “To visit a person.” (Ref. Prov. 18:10) or “To request or ask something of a person (Ref. Jer. 33:3). So to call on the name of the Lord is not to mention out His name, but to come in the Lord’s authority or make your request to God in the Lord’s authority.
