DAY 13: PEACE
30 DAYS DEVOTIONALS WITH PREACHER SAM
THE RHEMA WORD FOR TODAY
SEPTEMBER 13, 2022.
TOPIC: PEACE
BIBLE READING: JOHN 16:31-33
VERSE FOR MEDITATION: JOHN 14:27 NKJV
Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Jesus Christ makes us to know that there are two kinds of peace; the one He offers, and the one that the world offers. The world’s peace is external and so it depends on feelings and it must be something that must be seen. But God’s peace is internal and so it depends on faith and so, there is no need to see it before believing in it.
The world’s peace deceives people to think that life is manageable, yet it ultimately fails. But God’s peace is controlled by God Himself and it always endures.
Apostle Paul wrote, “And the way of peace they have not known. There is no fear of God before their eyes.” (Rom. 3:17, 18). Because the world have not known the way of peace, there will still be tribulation, war and disaster. That is why the world’s peace will ultimately fail. And also, that is why you won’t really ever be at peace in the world. You can’t find it there, because it’s not there to begin with.
The reason why there is no peace in this world is because of sin. But the moment we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (Rom. 5:1). Our peace with God came at the expense of the wrath of God being place on Christ. Jesus is the very reason we are able to make peace with God. And having peace with God means the enmity or hostility between us and God has ended by Christ’s suffering and death. When we are pardoned, we are brought into a peaceful relationship with God, and He is now at peace with us.
But why are some believers still living in unrest and uncertainty? That’s because they’ve only experienced one dimension of God’s peace; there is a dimension called “Peace with God”, and there is another called “Peace of God.” Just as how we have the faith towards God and the faith in the Son of God, that’s how we have the peace with God and the peace of God. The former happens at justification (Rom. 5:1), while the latter happens at sanctification; it must be experienced continuously. The former is objective, while the latter is subjective. God gave us His Spirit as an assurance that He has had peace with us, but we must subject ourselves to His Spirit to be imparted with the peace of God (Ref: Phil. 4:6, 7; Col. 3:15).
PRAYER:
MY FATHER AND MY GOD, PLEASE LET YOUR PEACE WHICH SURPASSES ALL MY UNDERSTANDING GUARD AND RULE MY HEART IN CHRIST’S NAME. AMEN.
