TOPIC: THE PROMISES OF GOD’S WORD
BIBLE READING: HEBREWS 6:9-20
VERSE FOR MEDITATION: PSALMS 138:2B TPT
For the promises of your word and the fame of your name have been magnified above all else!
From our Bible reading, there are two things that are immutable that make it impossible to see God as a liar; a promise and an oath.
Moses, when addressing the Israelites in the book of Numbers, talked about these two immutable things, that if a man should make a vow (that is, a promise) or swears an oath in order to bind himself by some agreement, he must not break his word but he must fulfil all that he had said (30:2). And King Solomon said, “Better not to vow than to vow and not pay.” (Eccl. 5:5). So whenever a promise is made or an oath is sworn, that person becomes bound by that agreement and must surely fulfil it.
Why will God have to make a promise and not only that, he swore an oath by Himself? That is because He wants us to have confidence in His Word. And Jesus said the scripture (God’s Word) cannot be broken (Jn. 10:35), so everything He says in His Word or He had promised in His Word will surely come to pass ((Isa. 55:11; Ezek. 12:25; Lk. 21:33).
God went as far as swearing an oath to prove to us the integrity in His Word and the sincerity in His promise. Thus, it is impossible for God to lie (Numb. 23:19; 1 Sam. 15:29; Tit. 1:2). And an instance was given in our Bible reading, about Abraham who obtained the promise. “For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the scripture might have hope” (Rom. 15:4, cf. Heb. 6:12).
If God could deliver up His only Son Jesus Christ in order to demonstrate His love towards this wicked and evil world (Jn. 3:16; 15:13; Rom. 5:8), how shall He not with Christ also freely give us all things? (Rom. 8:32).
If our earthly father could care for us, yet Jesus compared his love with that of our heavenly Father’s love as evil. How much more will our heavenly Father give the Promise (the Holy Spirit)? (Lk. 11:9-13).
Apostle Paul, when writing to Philemon wrote that the faith that we share may become effective when we acknowledge every good thing which is in us in Christ Jesus (vs. 6). Meaning, there are some who understand God’s Word and His promises, and are already walking it them, while there are some who are not walking in abundance, yet we share the same faith. And the reason for this is that the former have made their made their faith effective by acknowledgement, while the latter has not. So the problem is not with God, but with us, because we only receive based on the level of understanding we have and the intensity of light we are walking in.

DEAR HEAVENLY FATHER. I KNOW YOU CANNOT LIE AND YOU HAVE BLESSED ME WITH ALL SPIRITUAL BLESSINGS. PLEASE HELP ME THAT THE EYES OF MY HEART BE FLOODED WITH LIGHT BY YOUR SPIRIT, IN JESUS NAME. AMEN!
