TOPIC: CHARACTER AND CHARISMA IV- SPIRITUAL GIFTS A (THE GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT)

BIBLE READING: 1 CORINTHIANS 12:1-11

VERSE FOR MEDITATION: 1 CORINTHIANS 12:1 NKJV

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant.

Jesus Christ when leaving the earth, told his disciples, “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues.” (Mk. 16:17).

The first sign of a believer in Christ Jesus is not the ability to speak with new tongues but to cast out demons. The casting out of demons in its basic form is to resist the devil (Jam. 4:7), and to resist the devil is to refuse the temptations of the devil, refuse to give him a foothold in your life, and subjecting the flesh not to sin against God. This is character! Then after that, you can now talk about the manifestation of the gifts of the Spirit- Charisma.

The sign that you are a believer is primarily character then charisma.

Apostle Paul wrote to the church in Corinth that he did not want them to be ignorant about the spiritual; in context, spiritual gifts. If you only have godly character and you’re ignorant about spiritual gifts, you won’t be empowered to do exploits for God. You can’t evangelise without power, you can’t conquer your world without power and you can’t do anything for God without power. Every believer needs power to silent the god of Pharaoh in Egypt. Without power you cannot shake the world.

What are spiritual gifts? They are supernatural energy and realities, meant to profit the body of Christ.

These spiritual gifts are divided into three: the gifts of the Spirit (1 Cor. 12:7-11), the gifts of men (1 Cor. 12:12-26) and the ministry gifts (1 Cor. 12:27-30).

Today we will be focusing on the gifts of the Spirit. These gifts are subdivided into three; revelation gifts (gift of a word of wisdom, gift of a word of knowledge and gift of discernment of spirits), power gifts (gift of faith, gift of healings and gift of workings of miracles) and utterance gifts (gift of speaking in diverse kinds of tongues, gift of interpretation of tongues and gift of prophecy).

The revelation gifts speak about the supernatural eyes of God, the power gifts speak about the supernatural hands of God and utterance gifts speak about the supernatural mouth of God. They reveal the God that sees all things, the God that does all things and the God that speaks all things.

Each of these gifts have their purposes in all believers’ lives, and they are intended to build the church. This devotional cannot cover the whole scope of their purposes.

PRAYER:

DEAR GOD, HELP ME TO USE YOUR GIFTS TO BUILD YOUR CHURCH. IN JESUS’ NAME. AMEN!

DECLARATION:

THE GIFTS THE GOD IN ME IS TO BUILD THE CHURCH, I WILL NOT USE IT TO SATISFY MY FLESH.
