TOPIC: CHARACTER AND CHARISMA V- SPIRITUAL GIFTS B (THE GIFTS OF MEN)

BIBLE READING: 1 CORINTHIANS 12:12-26

VERSE FOR MEDITATION: ROMANS 12:5 NLT

So it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.

Yesterday we shared that the spiritual gifts are meant to profit the body of Christ. So you see why character must be built primarily, because God’s gift will be abused. Even in the manifestation of the gifts of men, we need to walk in love and remain humbled to bless the body of Christ.

The gifts of men are the believers’ services to the development and growth of the church. The character of love and humility is what keeps the believers in unity. The gifts of men have been summarised into seven: prophecy, service, teaching, encouragement, giving, leadership and hospitality (Rom. 12:6-8).

The Bible says, “For you can all prophesy…” (1 Cor. 14:31). And also, “So let each one give…” (2 Cor. 9:7). Meaning everyone can manifest all the gifts of men, but the scripture says, “Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith.” (Rom. 12:6). That means that the grace (charisma) is given to us is in the proportion of our faith. So some may be stronger in prophecy than giving, so he needs those who are stronger in that to educate him on how to give cheerfully. That is what our Bible reading is explaining, the ear needs the eye. Every member of the body of Christ needs one another for profiting and edification.

These seven gifts of men are the seven core departments in the church today. Prophecy (Prayer department), Service (Logistics), Teaching (Bible study department), Encouragement (Counselling and Follow-up), Giving (Financial department), leadership (The Overseers and Deacons) and Hospitality (Welfares).

A brother in the prayer department should be able to encourage a brother in the logistics, because prayers are need in maintaining the church appliances. And a sister in the Bible study department should exhort a sister in welfares, not to make the mistake of Martha. Also, that sister can stand in the gap for that sister in welfares when she is not around. This is how the church is developed. And this can’t be achieved if love and humility is not in place.

PRAYER:
FATHER, PLEASE HELP US NOT TO FORSAKE THE ASSEMBLING OF OURSELVES TOGETHER. LET THE BOND OF PERFECTION RULE OUR HEART IN CHRIST’S NAME I ASK THIS. AMEN!

DECLARATION:
I GIVE MYSELF TO THE SERVICE OF GOD; I GIVE MY CONTRIBUTION TO THE DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH OF THE CHURCH.
