THE RHEMA WORD FOR TODAY

SEPTEMBER 12, 2022.

TOPIC: JOY IV (THE WELLS OF SALVATION)

BIBLE READING: ISAIAH 12:1-6

VERSE FOR MEDITATION: ISAIAH 12:3 NKJV

Therefore with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.

Isaiah 12 is one of a number of hymns found outside the book of Psalms in the Old Testament. In it, Prophet Isaiah speaks to the Lord (vv. 1-3) and declares the greatness of God to everyone (vv. 4-6).

In his worship to the Lord, he praised Him after His anger has passed (vs. 1), he made a declaration of thanks and confidence in the Lord (vs. 2), and the result of the salvation of the Lord (vs. 3).

And in his declaration of God’s greatness to everyone, he exalted God among the peoples (vs. 4) and sang praises to the Lord before the inhabitant of Zion (vv. 5, 6). In all, the central focus of this chapter is upon God.

He started his praise by saying, “And in that day…” Meaning he was continuing what he started in Isaiah 11, where he spoke powerfully of the reign of the Messiah as King over all the earth. So Isaiah 12 comes from the heart of the one that has surrendered to the Messiah as King and enjoys the benefits of His reign.

The word ‘behold’ has the same meaning with the one recorded in 2 Corinthians 5:17. It means ‘to see’, ‘to look at’, ‘to understand’ or ‘to become aware of’. Old things have passed away, but you need to become aware that all things have become new. And you do that by the studying of the Word to find out your new creation realities. Until you become aware of that, you will still be struggling with the old man. So Isaiah wrote, “Behold, God is my salvation… He also has become my salvation.” Meaning until you become aware of the truth that God is your salvation, he won’t be your salvation.

It was after he wrote, “Behold”, that was when the added, “Therefore”. And “therefore” means, “for this purpose or cause or reason or as a result”. So as you become aware of this truth, it results to the drawing of the living water, from the wells of salvation. A case study to explain this is the story of the Samaritan woman in John 4:7-26. And this living water is drawn with joy and not with sorrow.

The gospel of the kingdom that Christ commanded the disciples to preach is the good news about the kingdom of God (Lk. 9:2). And this good news should create joy in the heart of sinners (Lk. 8:1) and lead them to repentance.Godly sorrow is as a result of a broken and a contrite heart. This broken and contrite heart is a heart of humility and total surrender to the Lordship of Christ. A broken and a contrite heart is a heart that reveals the helplessness of man to save himself from sin. Hence, godly sorrow has nothing to do with self-condemnation and self-pity, but it has everything to do with the Holy Spirit’s conviction in the heart of the sinner.

So without joy, you cannot draw from the wells of salvation. Without joy you cannot come boldly to the throne of grace to obtain mercy. And sometimes this joy can overwhelm you that you can cry the tears of joy.

DEAR GOD, I THANK YOU FOR THE GIFT OF YOUR SON, JESUS CHRIST, AND THE GIFT OF ETERNAL LIFE. SO WITH GREAT JOY IN MY HEART, I DRAW FROM YOUR LIVING WATER. AMEN!
