 THE RHEMA WORD FOR TODAY

(A DAILY DEVOTIONAL WITH PREACHER SAM)

TOPIC: ACCORDING TO YOUR TENDER MERCIES I- MOSES

DATE: 8 SEPTEMBER, 2021

BIBLE READING: NUMBERS 14: 11-25

VERSE FOR MEDITATION: NUMBERS 14:19 NKJV

Pardon the iniquity of this people, I pray, according to the greatness of Your mercy, just as You have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.

It has been said that praises move the hand of the Lord. But there is something more than just moving His hand; the mercy of God. The cry for His mercy will not only move His hand, but His whole being; the heart of God. When we can touch the heart of God by a cry for mercy, His hand can then move in your praise. Your praises will be acceptable when you have obtained mercy.

In our Bible reading, God wanted to wipe out the whole Israel in the wilderness, but Moses touched His heart by reminding God of His own very words during his encounter with Him in Exodus 34. Then he added, “Pardon the iniquity of this people, I pray, according to the greatness of Your mercy.” There are two people in scripture that used that phrase ‘according to your mercy.’ These are Moses and David (Though Nehemiah is inclusive but we will be looking at these two). Both of them understood that God honours His word above all His name (Ps. 138:2). They took Him by His word, because it is an immutable reality that it is impossible for God to lie (Heb. 6:18; Numb. 23:9), and His words are faithful and true (Rev. 21:5; 22:6).

Moses understood that if God said of Himself that He is abundant in mercy, and He can’t lie, because His words are faithful and true, then; ‘… according to the greatness of Your mercy’, freely pardon. God was left with no choice but to say, ‘I have pardoned, according to your word.’

Many of us have been trusting God for so many things, why not remind Him of His promises in His Word. ‘For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.’ (2 Cor. 1:20). To remind Him of His promises in His Word does not mean that He has forgotten. But rather through His mercy, He may be challenged to move to your favour.

PRAYER: My Father, who is rich in mercy, according to Your tender mercies, please answer me.
