DAY 7: THE SURE MERCIES OF DAVID

 THE RHEMA WORD FOR TODAY

(A DAILY DEVOTIONAL WITH PREACHER SAM)

TOPIC: THE SURE MERCIES OF DAVID

DATE: 7 SEPTEMBER, 2021

BIBLE READING: ACTS 13: 26-39

VERSE FOR MEDITATION: ISAIAH 55:3 KJV

Incline your ears, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.

There have been a lot of juxtapositions about the sure mercies of David, but the essence of this devotional is not necessarily for juxtaposition, but for revelation.

Remember we defined mercy as the act of God’s benevolence towards man in order that he might gain access to the heart of God where His compassion and the riches of His love dwells. David was a man that understood the mercies of God, that was why he could gain access into the heart of God, and God could say, “I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my own heart” (Acts 13:22; Ps. 89:20; 1 Sam.13:14).

When David’s heart condemned him of his sin, he asked God for mercy. Even when the word of the lord came to him through his prophet Gad, that he should choose the kind of punishment that he should receive, he picked none of them, but choose to fall into the hand of the Lord, because he understood the greatness of God’s mercies. (2 Sam. 24:10-14 c.f. Heb. 10:31).

It is call the sure mercies of David, because of the everlasting covenant that God made with David. David understood that under that covenant, the mercies of God are sure, reliable and certain.

The Scripture says that we have a better covenant (Heb. 8:6), and God has provided something better for us (Heb. 11:40), that these heroes of faith under the old covenant, including David, did not receive (Heb. 11:13, 39). And that they without us should not be made perfect (Heb. 11:40). So since we are under a better and perfect covenant, we have a surer mercy, a more secured, certain, non-failing, and reliable mercy that we can receive. If David could receive the sure mercies of God, you can receive the surest mercies of God. This is the Father’s love!

PRAYER: Dear God, I thank You that there’s something much better for me. For this cause I receive Your surest mercies in Christ’s name I pray. Amen!

DECLARATION: THE SUREST MERCIES OF GOD IS MINE, BECAUSE I AM UNDER A BETTER COVENANT. HALLELUJAH!
