DAY 6: UNDERSTANDING THE MERCIES OF GOD V- THE JUDGEMENTAL

 THE RHEMA WORD FOR TODAY

(A DAILY DEVOTIONAL WITH PREACHER SAM)

TOPIC: UNDERSTANDING THE MERCIES OF GOD V- THE JUDGEMENTAL DIMENSION

DATE: 6 SEPTEMBER, 2021

BIBLE READING: PSALMS 103: 8-18

VERSE FOR MEDITATION: HABAKKUK 3:2 MSG

God, I’ve heard what our ancestors say about you, and I’m stopped in my tracks, down on my knees. Do among us what you did among them. Work among us as you worked among them. And as you bring judgement, as you surely must, remember mercy.

Another dimension of the mercies of God is His judgement. We cannot study and understand the mercies of God without studying and understanding the dimension of His judgement. Forgiveness is possible because mercy is available; God forgives because His mercy abounds. So the mercies of God is also understood by His act of judgement.

Our Bible reading reveals to us that God can get angry, but He gets angry slowly because mercy abounds. That is why God does not get mad at us because we sinned, if He did, then we are not far from being condemned (1 Jn. 3:20, 21). He only gets grieved (Eph. 4:30), and when He is grieved He convicts us of our sins (Jn. 16:8-11).

Our heart that brings condemnation (1 Jn. 3:20), that is why Jesus said, “… he who does not believe is condemned already…” (Jn. 3:18). That is what will happen when a person stand face to face with God to be judged, he will be told his faults and his heart will be the one to condemn his action, for this cause, cast out to hell. So everyone in hell was as a result of God’s mercy to honour his freewill.

God does not condemn (Ps. 34:22, 37:33; Jn. 8:11; 1 Cor. 11:32), He justifies (Rom. 3:28, 5:1, 8:30). To be condemned is to be declared guilty. And if God is love (1Jn. 4:8), love keeps no record of wrongs (1 Cor. 13:5). So when His judgement is been passed, a man’s evil deeds and state of heart will be revealed, because  in Him there is no secret so it is the heart that declares him guilty to hell; that is He reveals the state of our heart and disapproves it. One way He disapproves it is by chastising us in love (Prov. 3:11, 12; Heb. 12:5-11). The reason for such chastisement is to bring us into obedience to His will.

The judgement of God passed out in scriptures, were an act of His mercy. The children of Israel is a typical case study we can look at, God had been patient with them by the riches of His mercy. The reason for those unpleasant judgement recorded in scripture was because of the law that brings condemnation and death. The law was given to reveal men’s frailty and the need for a saviour.

PRAYER: My heavenly Father, I thank you for your act of mercy in bringing me your justification. I ask that you forgive me my wrongs. In Jesus’ name. Amen!

DECLARATION: GOD IS GREATER THAN MY HEART SO WHO IS HE THAT CONDEMNS. I AM JUSTIFIED BY FAITH. GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST!
