Blessed be the God and the Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort.
The
Bible calls God, ‘the Father of mercies’, showing us that the mercy of God
comes from different ways and operations, of which we will look at a few on
consecutive days. First, what is the mercy of God?
The
mercy of God is an act of God’s benevolence towards man in order that he might
gain access into the heart of God where His compassion and the riches of His
love dwells.
That
is why the scripture says, “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace
that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in the time of need”. (Heb.
4:6). So when you come boldly to the throne of grace, but mercy with the
mercies of God, you would gain access to the heart of God where you would find
grace, which is an expression of His riches of His love. Without the mercies of
God, we cannot gain access to find grace; mercy must first be obtained before
grace can be found.
Now, if God is the Father of mercies then we are His mercies. Fine! He
is EL-SHADDAI (God Almighty), and ADONAI (The Sovereign Lord), but at the same
time, He is the Abba Father. He is so much interested in relationship so that
is why He decided to make man in His image of His personality and after His
likeness, so we are a reflection of His mercy on earth.
That was why when Adam sinned, God looked on him and saw His mercy, and
He was moved with great compassion. And unmerited favour (grace); which is an
expression of His riches of His love, was found and He clothed them and set
them out of the garden, so that they would not eat from the tree of life and remain
condemned forever. Everything God did all throughout the scripture was an act
of His mercy because man is a reflection of His mercy here on earth. And this
mercy comes in different ways. Stay tuned as we explore the Father’s love in 30
days.
PRAYER: My Father and my God, I thank you for
your great mercy towards me. Help me to find the grace to always reflect your
mercies to all humanity.
DECLARATION:
I (PUT YOUR NAME), AM A REFLECTION OF GOD’S ENDLESS MERCY. I AM THE MERCY OF GOD!
