DAY 13: OBTAINING THE MERCY OF GOD I

 THE RHEMA WORD FOR TODAY

(A DAILY DEVOTIONAL WITH PREACHER SAM)

TOPIC: OBTAINING THE MERCY OF GOD I

DATE: 13 SEPTEMBER, 2021

BIBLE READING: HEBREWS 4: 12-16

VERSE FOR MEDITATION: HEBREWS 4:16 NKJV

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

The word of God is the revealer of our hearts, hiding nothing before our God. Everything we do are laid bare before Him; in Him there is no secret at all.

Now when we sin, we are judged and convicted, and our hearts condemn our wrong deeds. That is why we need to obtain the mercy of God, because through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed (Lam. 3:22). But how can we obtain the mercy of God?

There are four significant steps in obtaining the mercy of God. The first is the understanding we have about God being the merciful God. Before you can come boldly to the throne of grace to obtain mercy, you must believe that He is merciful, and that He will surely grant you mercy (Heb. 11:6). When David’s heart condemned him, and the punishment of God was about to be passed to him, he chose to fall into the hand of the Lord, because he understood how great are the mercies of God (2Sam. 24:10-14; c.f. Hab. 3:2). Also, after he had gone into Bathsheba and killed Uriah, he cried out, “Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Your loving-kindness, according to the multitude of Your tender mercies, blot out my transgressions… The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart- These, O God, You will not despise.” (Ps. 51:1, 17). That is why devotionals like this are essential for your walk with God and spiritual growth.

The second step in obtaining the mercy of God is through Jesus Christ, our great High Priest. Why? Because of two reasons. The first reason is because of His blood that serve as a propitiation for our sins (Heb. 10:19; 12:24; 9:22; c.f. 1Jn. 2:22). And the second reason is because He is the only High Priest that can stand as our Advocate before God and plead on our behalf. He is the best person to go with because He understands our weaknesses better than anybody else, even ourselves.

Tomorrow, we will look at the other two steps in obtaining the mercy of God.

PRAYER: Dear God, help me by Your Spirit to grow in the understanding about Your great mercies. This I ask and receive in Jesus’ name. Amen!

DECLARATION: GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST THAT I HAVE JESUS AS MY HIGH PRIEST AND ADVOCATE!
