DAY 5: UNDERSTANDING THE MERCIES OF GOD IV- THE HEALING DIMENSION
THE RHEMA WORD FOR TODAY
(A
DAILY DEVOTIONAL WITH PREACHER SAM)
TOPIC:
UNDERSTANDING THE MERCIES OF GOD IV- THE HEALING DIMENSION
DATE:
5 SEPTEMBER, 2021
BIBLE
READING: MARK 10: 46-52
VERSE
FOR MEDITATION: PSALM 6:2 NKJV
Have mercy on me, O LORD, for I am weak; O
LORD, heal me, for my bones are troubled.
In
English language, a semicolon is used, to link two independent clauses that are
closely related in thought. In our verse of meditation, “Have mercy on me, O
Lord” share the same thought and meaning with “O Lord, heal me”. So there is another
dimension of the mercies of God as healing.
In our Bible reading for today, Bartimaeus was blind and he cried out to
Jesus for mercy. The response of Jesus seems somehow bizarre, “What do you want
me to do for you?” Jesus was trying to teach us something here that the mercies
of God can come in different ways and operations. Bartimaeus may be crying for
the mercy of God’s favour, so that he could eat. Like the crippled beggar at
the beautiful gate, he was not expecting healing, but money (Acts 3:5). So
Jesus did not want to assume that Bartimaeus needed favour or healing that is
why he asked, “[Be specific on your request of mercy]. What do you want me to
do for you [Do you want me to give you the mercy of God’s favour or healing]?”
In scripture, there are instances when
it was recorded that Jesus was moved with compassion and he healed the sick
(Matt. 14:14; Mk.1:41).The healing was made possible because he was moved with
compassion. Compassion is when mercy compels you to share in someone’s
suffering. Compassion is also sympathy. Empathy is when mercy is absent when
identifying someone’s suffering. Mercy makes the difference between sympathy
and empathy. And because of the presence of mercy, healing is possible.
Are you trusting God for healing in your body? You need the mercy of God
that brings healing. You may have faith to be healed, but without the
compelling mercy of God, your healing cannot be effectual.
PRAYER:
Have mercy on me, O Lord and heal me.
DECLARATION:
BECAUSE HIS MERCY ENDURES FOREVER AND IT CONTINUALLY FOLLOWS ME ALL THE DAYS OF MY LIFE, HEALING IS FOREVER MINE. AND SICKNESS CAN NOT SURVIVE IN ME, GLORY
TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST!
