DAY 29: SONGS OF MERCY II
THE RHEMA WORD FOR TODAY
(A
DAILY DEVOTIONAL WITH PREACHER SAM)
TOPIC:
SONGS OF MERCY II
DATE:
29 SEPTEMBER, 2021
BIBLE
READING: PSALMS 25:1-22
VERSE
FOR MEDITATION: PSALMS 25:6 NKJV
Remember, O LORD, Your tender mercies and Your
loving-kindnesses, for they are from of old.
Yesterday
we were looking at the word, ‘remember’ and how God does not forget. But you
may be tempted to ask this question, “If God does not forget, how come the
Scripture says that God will remember our sins no more? Simply means, He will
forget our sins.” (Jer. 31:31-34; Heb. 8:12; 10:17). When you study those Bible
passages contextually, you will understand that it was referring to a new and
better covenant that we have in Christ Jesus through His finished works on the
cross.
Under
the old covenant, the sacrifices of bulls, lambs, goats and turtle doves, does
not take away sin permanently from our heart. But under the new covenant,
Christ paid and offered one sacrifice for sins forever. This once and forever sacrifice
of Jesus atones our sins, thus clearing off every record of sins written
against us. So, “I will forget your sins” implies, “I have no record of your
sins anymore; they’ve been cleared. For this cause, I declare you not guilty.”
Is this not good-news? Glory to God in the highest!
Still
on our verse for meditation, “For they (His tender mercies and His loving
kindnesses) are from of old.” What does this mean?
God’s
Word version puts it this way, “They have existed from eternity.” So the great
mercy and steadfast love of God have existed before the world began. Who told
David that? Thus is to say that David really had a depth of knowledge of the
mercies and love of God. There are four other places where He used both in
Psalms (Ps. 40:11; 51:1; 69:16; 103:4). In the whole book of Psalms, he
happened to be the only one who used both in his psalm. This is no doubt a
revelation he had about the mercies and loving-kindnesses of our God. Could it
be that that was why he remained a man after God’s heart? The mercy of God is
an act of God’s benevolence towards man in order that he might gain access into
the heart of God where His compassion and the riches of His love dwells.
PRAYER:
Dear Lord, please give me a personal revelation about Your mercies and loving-kindness,
so that I can be able to chase after You.
DECLARATION:
I TAKE MY ROOT DEEPER ON THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE TENDER MERCIES AND
LOVING-KINDNESS OF MY GOD.
