DAY 10: THE SOVEREIGN MERCY OF GOD
THE RHEMA WORD FOR TODAY
(A
DAILY DEVOTIONAL WITH PREACHER SAM)
TOPIC:
THE SOVEREIGN MERCY OF GOD
DATE:
10 SEPTEMBER, 2021
BIBLE
READING: ROMANS 9: 14-24
VERSE
FOR MEDITATION: ROMANS 9:18 ESV
So then he has mercy on whomever he wills, and
he hardens whomever he will.
There
are some phases of the mercies of God that operate under the common grace of
God. This kind of mercy is enjoyed by everyone (believers and unbelievers
alike). There are some phases that operate under the saving grace of God. This
kind of mercy is enjoyed by the believers (most especially the new converts).
There are some phases that operate under the teaching grace. This kind of mercy
is enjoyed by the growing believers.
But
there are some phases of the mercies of God that are revealed as the depths of
the mercies of God. This kind operates under the special grace of God. This is
enjoyed by a few. This kind of mercy is called the sovereign mercy of God,
without this, the mercy of God cannot be absolute.
The
sovereign mercy of God is what makes the mercies of God absolute because it
truly reveals God as the Sovereign Lord; the Supreme Being.
The sovereign mercy of God is the only form of
mercy that cannot be provoked; other forms of mercies can be provoked, but not
this one. This sovereign mercy of God is necessary so that only Him can be
glorified and worshipped. This sovereign mercy of God stir up the fear of God
in the heart of men.
I
love the way The Passion Translation puts verse 16 of our Bible reading, “Again
this proves that God’s choice doesn’t depend on how badly someone wants it or
tries to earn it, but it depends on God’s kindness and mercy.”
One
thing you can only do to see this sovereign mercy of God to manifest in your
life is your total dependence and consecration unto God with absolute reverence
to Him. Though these do not work all the time, because it depends on His choice
as the Sovereign Lord, but they are the best way to see it manifest.
PRAYER:
O Sovereign Lord, I hallowed Your name for who You are. May I enjoy all the
dimensions of Your mercies that are available in You. Amen!
DECLARATION:
THERE IS NO GOD LIKE MY GOD THAT IS FULL OF HIS SOVEREIGNTY. ADONAI! THAT IS WHO
YOU ARE.
