DAY 30: CAVE OF ADULLAM
THE RHEMA WORD FOR TODAY
(A DAILY DEVOTIONAL WITH PREACHER SAM)
TOPIC: CAVE OF ADULLAM
DATE: 30 SEPTEMBER, 2019
BIBLE READING: 1 SAMUEL 22:1-5
MEDITATION/MEMORY VERSE: PSALM 91:1, 2 (NKJV)
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.”
Caves were frequently used as dwelling places (Num. 24:21) or as a place for retreats (2 Sam. 23:13). Sometimes those who had niches in their sides were occupied as burying-places (Jn. 11:38).
The Bible is very meticulous about information. Why did the Bible mention the place where that cave was? Because Adullam; though a Canaanite city, was where the glory of Israel had come.
Micah 1:15
I will yet bring an heir to you, O inhabitant of Mareshah; the glory of Israel shall come to Adullam.
David escaped for the fear of his life from King Saul and retreated in the cave of Adullam, which the Bible also meticulously called THE STRONGHOLD (a place of refuge).
News got to David’s family of where he was, and they followed him there. A lot of other people joined him too. Some who were in trouble, others were angry or in debt. Yet, King Saul never came to that cave at the period of time. Soon,, David became a commander of about 400 men.
But David, being concerned about his aged parents, not to expose them to danger, he pleaded with the king of Moab to hide them, “Let my father and mother stay with you until I find what God will do with me.”
Probably what he did must have annoyed his parents because he wrote this:
Psalm 27:10
Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.
God accepted him, because he did what was acceptable before God.
1 Timothy 5:4
… let them first learn to show piety at home and to repay their parents; for this is good and acceptable before God.
Regardless of the circumstances, David remained in the stronghold till prophet Gad told him of the next step he should take.
And those men that came to join him in the cave became mighty warriors.
The cave of Adullam has rich lessons to learn. Our cave of Adullam is the secret place of the Most High (Ps. 91:1, 2), where we can find His glory that shields us (Ps. 3:3; 84:11).
Our cave of Adullam is our place of retreat, where we wait on the Lord for guidance and direction. And also to raise up mighty warriors, especially in these last days.
Isaiah 40:31
But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
And also, our cave of Adullam is a place where God will never forsake us for leaving all to pursue after him.
ACTION POINT: I CHOOSE NOT TO BE CARELESS IN VISITING THE SECRET PLACE, BUT TO DWELL IN IT.
PRAYER POINT: MOST HIGH GOD, I COME TO YOU AND MAKE YOU MY CAVE OF ADULLAM. PLEASE PROTECT, GUIDE, DIRECT AND BUILD ME UP TO BE A MIGHTY WARRIOR FOR YOUR KINGDOM.
PERSONAL READING: PSALM 142:1-7
