DAY 13: ETERNAL SALVATION I

THE RHEMA WORD FOR TODAY
(A DAILY DEVOTIONAL WITH PREACHER SAM)

TOPIC: ETERNAL SALVATION I
DATE: 13 SEPTEMBER, 2019
BIBLE READING: HEBREWS 5:7-9
MEDITATION/MEMORY VERSE: HEBREWS 5:9 (NKJV)
And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him.

The concept of eternal salvation is best understood by their root words: Eternal in the Greek is aionios, which means perpetual (also used of past time or present and future as well) — everlasting; forever.
And salvation in the Greek is soteria, which means to rescue, to deliver or to save.
So literarily, eternal salvation means one that is forever saved. So with this, does our Bible reading support the idea that once we are saved, we are forever saved? Meaning our salvation cannot be lost? Are we eternally secured?
The belief of eternal security have been traced down by some Bible scholars to the very words of Jesus in John 10:28 & 29.
John 10:28, 29
And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.
But some have argued that deeming into Hebrews 5:9 meticulously, eternal salvation is only meant to all who obey the author of eternal salvation, Jesus Christ.
Eugene Peterson, the writer of The Message Bible, writes this verse this way:
He became the source of eternal salvation to all who believingly obey him.
So this obedience is our believing on Him? Yes, that’s what it means; ‘…that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.’ (Jn. 3:16).
So does that mean that no matter what I do, I will still get to heaven? Now, that’s where the error comes in. And that’s where a balance has to be stricken.
Romans 6:15
What then? Shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
God forbid you to live in sin as genuine born again believer.
Romans 6:12, 13
Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lust. And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.
2 Timothy 2:19
Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”
If truly you are born again, you won’t be living in sin, because the Holy Spirit that dwells in you will always prompt you not to. But if you are consistently sinning and having this confidence that you are eternally secured, go and examine yourself.
2 Corinthians 13:5
Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.
But the Bible have said that there’s a sin which is unto death; the unpardonable sin. So meaning we can lose our salvation.
But you will say that since eternal salvation refers to forever saved, then why and how can we be lost again? We shall discuss on this tomorrow.

ACTION POINT: HOPE YOU ARE BLESSED?
PRAYER POINT: O LORD, I ASK THAT YOU PLEASE SHED MORE LIGHT ON THIS ISSUE OF ETERNAL SALVATION TO ME.
