DAY 1: START YOUR DAY WITH GOD

THE RHEMA WORD FOR TODAY
(A DAILY DEVOTIONAL WITH PREACHER SAM)

TOPIC: START YOUR DAY WITH GOD
DATE: 1 SEPTEMBER, 2019
BIBLE READING: MARK 1:35-38
MEDITATION/MEMORY VERSE: MARK 1:35 (ERV)
The next morning Jesus woke up very early. He left the house while it was still dark and went to a place where he could be alone and pray.
Jesus said to his disciples in John 13:15, “I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.”
John, who penned down the very words of Christ, also wrote in like manner to the church.
1 John 2:6
Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.
Looking at the life of our Saviour, Jesus Christ, in today's bible reading, he had gotten up, even before the day breaks and went to a quiet place to have a fellowship with God.
He did that before his disciples could come looking for him for the day's business (Mark 1:37, 38).
Jesus had set this example for us to follow. Well, he didn't lay emphasis on this. The Bible didn't mention a set time to fellowship with God. In the time of Adam it was in the evening (Genesis 3:8).
But following what Jesus did, it has a lot of benefits.
First, we know that the first meal eaten in the day is called BREAKFAST.
Look at that word carefully; BREAKFAST.
That is you're breaking a fast. And normally, we know that fasting involves quietness and waiting on God, it means denying yourself of food and other things that will distract your focus on God. So immediately after the fasting you BREAK it with a meal.
With this sense, BREAKFAST should not be eaten when the spiritual food hasn't been eaten yet.
See what Job said in Job 23:12 “I have not departed from the commandment of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my portion of food.”
Can we say this like Job? NO WORD; NO FOOD.
It takes discipline, submission and hunger for the knowledge of God.
It's very good to start your day with God, even before anyone gets up because;
1.                  It tunes our mind on God for direction and guidance for the day.
2.                  It helps us when we face temptations on daily basis.
3.                  It helps us to manifest the gifts and the fruit of the Holy Spirit.
4.                  It refreshes our souls even before the day's challenges.
5.                  We wake up with our minds free from stress, and so it's the best time to look into God's Word so that we can memorise some scriptures that will edify our spirits and our souls.
There are a lot of benefits of looking into God's Word early in the morning.

ACTION POINT: WE ARE IN THE END TIMES AND IT'S ONLY THE WORD OF GOD THAT CAN SAVE YOU WHEN PERSECUTION ARISES.
PRAYER POINT: LORD HELP ME TO BE FAITHFUL ENOUGH TO FELLOWSHIP WITH YOU EVERY MORNING.
PERSONAL READING: PSALM 63:1-11
