TOPIC:
GOD CHOSE JOHN
DATE:
3 SEPTEMBER, 2020
BIBLE
READING: MATTHEW 3
MEDITATION/MEMORY
VERSE: LUKE 1:76 (NLT)
And you,
my little son, will be called the prophet of the Most High, because you will
prepare the way for the Lord.
In
this season, we will be looking at 28 different Bible characters, that God
chose and assigned them for a purpose. The first person we are looking at today
is John.
John
was chosen for a unique purpose to prepare the way of the Lord. I remember one
time ago when the president of my country was coming to my state of residence,
the media had to announce his coming urging us to prepare for his arrival. On a
working day, the road was unusually traffic free, all because one man was
coming.
So
also, our Lord- the Messiah was coming to be the Saviour of the whole world,
and someone had to prepare the hearts of the inhabitants of the earth. Someone
with the spirit and power of Elijah that will turn the hearts of the fathers to
their children, and will cause those who are rebellious to accept the wisdom of
the godly (Lk. 1:17).
And
out of the affluential people in Israel, God decided to choose John; a
wilderness man (Lk. 1:80), that wore clothing made of camel’s hair and ate
locusts and wild honey (Matt. 3:4). A man whose message was blunt and to the
point, yet this was the man whom God had chosen to introduce His Son, the
Messiah. One thing about God is that never looking of a perfect vessel, but a
yielded vessel.
The
Bible says, ‘The child continued to grow and to become strong in the spirit,
and he lived in the deserts until the day of his public appearance to Israel
[as John the Baptist, the forerunner of the Messiah].’ (Lk. 1:80 AMP). Even
though he had been chosen by birth he understood the laws of process and
yieldedness. Everyone whom God has chosen must never be in a rush; there’s time
for everything- a time to be quiet and a time to speak (Eccl. 3:1, 7). If John
had begun his ministry without passing through the wilderness experience he
would have ended up missing the primary goal- to prepare the way. It was during
that process that he began to grow in the Spirit and also became strong in the
spirit.
When
John’s father, Zechariah, was told about the birth of God’s chosen one to
prepare the way for His Son, he said, ‘How can I be sure this will happen?’ And
the Bible says, ‘Then the angel said, “I am Gabriel! I stand in the very
presence of God. It was he who sent me to bring you this good new! But now,
since you didn’t believe what I said, you will be silent and unable to speak
until the child is born. For my words will certainly be fulfilled at the proper
time.”’ (Lk. 1:19-20 NLT). Word are powerful, it has a way of manipulating
someone’s destiny. That was why his mouth was shut till the chosen one was
born. And even after the child was born, the Holy Spirit filled him up so that
he would prophesy blessings (Ref. Lk. 1:64-79).
John’s
baptism was part of the assignment. He did that so that he could receive a sign
from heaven that the Messiah has come, because from Scriptures, he possibly did
not know that the Messiah was his cousin when you John 1:19-34
DECLARATION: MY ASSIGNMENT IIS
UNIQUE! AND I’M GLAD THAT GOD IS NOT LOOKING FOR A PERFECT VESSEL, BUT A YIEDED
ONE! AND SO LORD I YIELD.
