BIBLE READING: EXODUS 3

MEDITATION/MEMORY VERSE: PSALMS 105:26 (NKJV)

He sent Moses… whom He had chosen

From our Bible reading, we see that God chose Moses, a Levite, to bring deliverance to the household of Jacob in Egypt. Even from the preceding chapter, we see that God had chosen him before the beginning of this world.

Why will God choose a murderer (Ex. 2:12), a bad public speaker and a stammerer (Ex. 4:10) to lead his people out of Egypt?

First, Moses’ household must be a special household unto the Lord. Amram and Jochebed, the parents to Moses (Ex. 6:20) must had been working in the prophetic, because the Bible says, ‘… She (Jochebed, Moses’ mother) saw there was something special about him (Moses) and hid him…’ (Ex. 2:2 Parenthesis mine). She saw; that was not just a mere look, she saw prophetically into the destiny of the child.

And from the scriptures, we saw that Moses’ siblings and himself walked in that prophetic grace. His sister Miriam, was a prophetess in Israel (Ex. 15:20). And his brother Aaron, was a priest- a functionary prophet (Ex. 4:16; 7:1; 28:1).

So God needed a prophet who would bring deliverance to the household of Jacob (Amos 3:7). Now God never has a prophet among his people, he always has prophets among them (1 Kings 19:18). So why did he choose Moses, when there are other prophet who are fluent in words and are not stammerers.

You must understand that His ways are higher than ours (Isa. 55:9), and as a Sovereign God, He chooses to have mercy on whom He chooses to have mercy (Rom. 9:15). He does this thing in order to take the glory (Rom. 11:36; Isa. 42:8; 1 Cor. 10:31).

There is someone in the Bible that God used who seems perfect in all his ways, till pride entered him and wanted to partake in sharing the glory of God (Ezek. 28:15; Isa. 14:12-14). So, God is never looking for a perfect vessel, but a yielded vessel; he doesn’t call the qualified, instead he qualifies the called.

But apart from Moses being a prophet, God chose him also because he saw a leader in him (Ex. 3:4). A leader is one who sees. Moses, like any other person would had seen a bush burning and just continue his daily work, but Moses saw beyond a burning bush, he saw that the fire did not burn up the bush, and so he walked closer to examine the bush; that was what God saw in him- one who can see beyond what a natural man could see.

‘To see’ in the Hebrew, literally means ‘to discern’, ‘to perceive’, ‘to envision’ and ‘to look (on, one another, one on another, one upon another, out, up, upon).’ This was what Moses’ mother did- she saw; she perceived in her spirit that that child was a special child and not ordinary. Before the burning bush experience, Moses had seen the sufferings of the Israelites in Egypt (Ex. 2:11), and also had seen two Hebrew men fighting (Ex. 2:13).

But Moses cannot bring deliverance to the children of Israel by killing every slave master, so God had to send him out of Egypt to pass through a wilderness experience (Ex. 2:15; Heb. 11:27). And his first training, which lasted for forty years was to care for and lead the sheep (Ex. 2:16, 17).

Forty is a number associated with testing and trials (Ex. 24:18; Gen. 7:4; Numb. 14:33; Matt. 4:2); so Moses was undergoing a refining of the heart. We saw the result; ‘Now the man Moses was very humble, more than all men who were on the face of the earth.’ (Numb. 12:3 NKJV). Oh! How a murderer could become the meekest on earth? Do you feel worthless? Or your sins are too great for God to forgive? Do you feel that God can’t use you? Ask Moses or Paul, and I’m sure they will tell you this: YOU ARE WORTHY AND USEFUL BY GOD, YOUR SINS ARE FORGIVEN AND GOD HAS DELIVERED YOU. YOU ARE NOT FOUND GUILTY BEFORE THE COURT IN HEAVEN. THIS IS GOODNEWS!

DECLARATION: MY SINS ARE FORGIVEN! I AM THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD IN CHRIST JESUS! I AM WORTH TO BE USED BY GOD! GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST!
