DAY 2: CHOSEN FOR A PURPOSE

 THE RHEMA WORD FOR TODAY

(A DAILY DEVOTIONAL WITH PREACHER SAM)

TOPIC: CHOSEN FOR A PURPOSE

DATE: 2 SEPTEMBER, 2020

BIBLE READING: PSALM 139

MEDITATION/MEMORY VERSE: PSALM 57:2 (NLT)

I cry out to God Most High, to God who will fulfil his purpose for me.

Have you asked yourself why you were born? Why are you here on earth?

First, everyone is created for a purpose, we are not born by accident; we are not here to fill the earth. We are here for a purpose. God created us for His good pleasure- we are here to bring him glory (Rev. 4:11; Isa. 43:7). He did not only choose us, He also appointed us (Jn. 15:16 AMP), that is He chose us for a purpose. We all on earth have an assignment to do. If we are not doing our assignment or fulfilling our purpose, we are not bringing Him glory or good pleasures.

The Bible says, ‘… one star differs from another star in glory.’ (1 Cor. 15:41). And science has taught us that there are millions of stars in our galaxy. So, all the millions of stars are unique in its beauty and splendour. So also, we have a unique assignment, we were chosen for a specific purpose. We were created- not reproduced, so we are unique. We were created for His glory, so your glory to Him differs from another; just like the stars in the galaxy.

Daniel 12:3 CEV

Everyone who has been wise will shine as bright as the sky above, and everyone who has led others to please God will shine forever like the stars.

In our Bible reading in verse 16, there is a book in the library of heaven that has our unique purpose recorded for every moment of every single day of our lives. And the Psalmist ended with a prayer; ‘Search me O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.’

Sin blindfolds our eyes from discovering our unique purpose, and until sin is dealt with in our lives, we won’t read through the pages of our book in the library of heaven. And so, we need to say that same prayer like the Psalmist.

And our verse for meditation should also be our prayer too. And just as how Jesus taught his disciples how to pray, ‘Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.’ (Lk. 11:2b), we should make that our prayer on daily basis. ‘Your will and purpose for my life recorded in heaven, let it be done and established in my life.’ So when you yield to the Spirit of God, He will direct you through your unique purpose.

I love the way The Message Bible puts Romans 12:1, 2. It says:

So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life- your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life- and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognise what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

DECLARATION: I AM BORN FOR A PURPOSE! MY DESTINY IS UNIQUE! I BRING GOD GOOD PLEASURES AND GLORY!
