DAY 21: GOD CHOSE SOLOMON

 THE RHEMA WORD FOR TODAY

(A DAILY DEVOTIONAL WITH PREACHER SAM)

TOPIC: GOD CHOSE SOLOMON

DATE: 21 SEPTEMBER, 2020

BIBLE READING: 1 CHRONICLES 28

MEDITATION/MEMORY VERSE: 1 CHRONICLES 29:1 (ERV)

King David said to all the Israelites who gather together, “God chose my son Solomon. Solomon is young and does not know all that he needs to do this work. But the work is very important. This house is not for people; this house is for the Lord God.

Everyone called and chosen by God has a unique assignment; even though it looks the same with someone else, God’s divine strategy for you to handle it is quite different from another.

When God gave Saul his assignment to rescue the Israelites from the Philistines (1 Sam. 9:16), but because he disobeyed God when God told him to kill all the Amalekites (1 Sam. 15:17-26), God chose someone else to take down the Philistines in 1 Samuel 17. The killing of the Amalekites was just a test of obedience.

God raised up David to take his place, but His strategy to David is different from Saul’s. And that’s why Saul’s armour wasn’t meant for him (1 Sam. 17:38-40). Remember that Saul was really tall (1 Sam. 9:2; 10:23), so you can imagine David’s discomfort on Saul’s armour?

Now from our Bible reading, David wanted to build a temple for God, but God refused it- that was not his assignment (1 Chron. 28:2, 3). David’s assignment was to be a warrior (1 Chron. 28:3), that’s why he was called a man of war (1 Sam. 16:18). The person whom God had in heart to build His temple was someone referred to as a man of peace; not a man of war. David was not fit for this assignment, but because He had chosen to establish David’s dynasty (1Chron. 17:17; 1 Kings 2:24), He then had to choose someone from his household for the assignment (1 Chron. 28:4-7).

Acts 13:36 ESV

For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep and was laid with his fathers and saw corruption.

David, unlike Saul, fulfilled the purposes of God because He was a man after God’s heart (Acts 13:22). A man after God’s heart will find purpose with God and fulfil it completely. You cannot fulfil the purpose of God for your life if your heart is not after God.

Now why Solomon? Because Solomon seemed unqualified as He is not the first son of David. First, you must understand that god in His Sovereignty, chose Solomon out of David’s many sons (1 Chron. 28:5). God chose Solomon even before he was born (1 Chron. 22:9; cf. Rom. 8:28-30).

Another thing we can find out from scripture is that David was a man of war (1 Sam. 16:18) while Solomon was a man of peace (1 Chron. 22:9). In fact, His name means “peaceful”. The house of God is a house of peace; a house where the Prince of Peace dwells (Hag. 2:9).

Solomon was chosen over his brother also because God needed a wise king, and it seemed his elder brothers were foolish (1 Chron. 22:12). Adonijah acted foolishly by making himself king, even when David, his father was still alive and invited all his brothers except Solomon- because he probably knew how wise he was (1 Kings 1:19; cf. Prov. 13:20; 14:8; 3:35; 26:11-12).

God had to choose Solomon because of the ugly past between his parents, and so if nothing was done concerning his matter, he would be treated as a criminal (1 Kings 1:21). And that’s also our story too, He chose us to save us from the grip of Satan.

God chose you because of your past, He chose you before you were born. He chose you because He has a special and a unique assignment that He has for you. Just as He chose Solomon because of David’s covenant with Him, same with Abraham’s case- He chose Isaac, He has likewise chosen you because of His Son; the covenant of His blood that has made you righteous with God.

DECLARATION: THANKS BE TO GOD FOR CHOOSING ME BECAUSE OF YOUR SON’S CONVENANT OF BLOOD. AND THANKS BE TO GOD ALSO FOR MY UNIQUE IDENTITY IN CHRIST AND SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT.
