Topic: THE POWER OF THE BLOOD
Bible Reading: Hebrews 9:6-22
Verse for Meditation: Revelation 12:11 CEV
Our people defeated Satan because of the blood of the Lamb and the message of God. They were willing to give up their lives.
It takes power to defeat Satan, and Satan was defeated because of the blood of the Lamb and the message of God, and this message of God is the gospel. Just as we can’t separate the gospel from the cross, so also we can’t separate the gospel from the blood; there’s where the power lies.
So what then is the gospel and the blood? What’s the power behind the blood of Jesus Christ? And why the blood?
Jesus Christ had been chosen to be man’s Redeemer before the foundations of the world. And according to John’s revelation about that, he saw a Lamb as though it had been slain (Rev. 5:6). And a son was sung about it;
Revelation 5:9 NKJV
And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll, and to open its seals; for You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation.
So before the fall of man, the blood of the Lamb of God was the only plan God had to redeem the fallen man. But that’s not enough a reason.
The Bible says, “For the life of the flesh is in the blood…” (Lev. 17:11). So the blood of the Lamb of God was the life; and when the blood was shed, he died and His life was exchanged for our death.
“He died for us that… we may live…”
(1 Thess. 5:10).
Back to the account of the fall of man, Adam and Eve sewed fig leaves together for their coverings (Gen. 3:7). And of course, their works were not sufficient to cover their sin. So God had to make a better covering for them using an animal skin (Gen. 3:21). And for God to do that blood was shed; “… and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” (Heb. 9:22). Hence, God’s covering them with animal skins was the first evidence of the necessity of blood to cover sin. And it is the beginning of understanding why Jesus had to die on the cross, in the way that the Gospels record.
And since that time until the time of the cross, the sacrifice of an animal and the shedding of its blood was God’s required provision for covering man’s sin. And we saw a typification in Abel’s offering (Gen. 4:4), then in Noah’s offering (Gen. 8:20). And we come to Abraham when the ram that God provided on Mt. Moriah was a substitute for the life of Isaac (Gen. 22:1-19). This became Jewish practice as recorded in the book of Leviticus, all pointing to Christ. All these were insufficient of taking away sin because the animal’s blood; which has its life, does not bear in it the life of God. So this calls for the blood of a sinless man of whom Jesus Christ fits into this to take away our sin completely and forever.
Now how powerful is the blood of Jesus? It is powerful to redeem us (Eph. 1:7; Heb. 9:12); to reconcile us to God (Rom. 3:25); to pay our ransom (1Pet. 1:18-19; Rev. 5:9); to wash away sin (1Jn. 1:7); to bring us forgiveness of sins (Heb. 9:22); to set us free (Rev. 1:5); to justify us (Rom. 5:9); to cleanse our guilty conscience (Heb. 9:13-14); to sanctify us (Heb. 13:12); to open the way to God’s presence (Eph. 2:13; Heb. 10:19); to give us peace (Col. 1:19-20); and finally give us victory (Rev. 12:11).

FATHER I THANK YOU FOR THE POWER THAT IS IN THE BLOOD OF THE RISEN CHRIST. AMEN!
