Topic: MAN AFTER THE FALL
Bible Reading: Genesis 3:1-24
Verse for Meditation: Romans 5:12 TPT
When Adam sinned, the entire world was affected. Sin entered human experience, and death was the result. And so death followed this sin, casting its shadow over all humanity, because all have sinned.
In today’s devotional we can see the conversation of the serpent and the woman, the rebellion of man and the consequences of the fall.
A very good study of the scripture will show us that our God is always referred to as the Lord God. But Satan called Him “God.” This should tell us one thing; Satan is not submitted to the authority (lordship) of God. That’s a better way to discern the voice of the devil, he never submits to the final authority of the scripture. We have such people in our churches today, sharing revelations that do not agree to the final authority of God’s written word.
Some theologians believe that the reason why the devil came to tempt the woman is because she was vulnerable. Well I will partly agree to that because actually it was because the instruction was given to the man and not the woman (Gen. 2:15-17). So when the question was thrown at her, look at what she said, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, “You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.” Was that what God said? No! God said, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” (Gen. 2:16-17). What’s the difference? She took away the word “freely” and added, “nor shall you touch it” to the instruction (cf. Rev. 22:18-19).
Man was given freedom! And true freedom must have some restrictions. That’s what God gave to man! Not eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil is a way of God letting man to exercise his power of choice. The fruit in itself is not poisonous, but rebelling against God’s command is what brought the effect, death.
Who told the man, “We may eat.” It is definitely not God but the man. God gave man government, but man gave the woman religion. Religion takes away god’s freedom and adds the law, “Don’t touch.” Apostle Paul reiterated that in his letter to the churches in Colossae.
Colossians 2:20-23 NLT
20 You have died with Christ, and he has set you free from the evil powers of this world, So why do you keep on following rules of the world, such as,
21 “Don’t handle, don’t eat, don’t touch.”
22 Such rules are mere human teaching about things that are gone as soon as we use them.
23 These rules may seem wise because they require strong devotion, humility, and severe bodily discipline. But they have no effect when it comes to conquering a person’s evil thoughts and desire.
When Satan poked the question at the woman some believe that it was because he doesn’t know about it, but he did! When the woman said, “You will die.” He said, “You will not surely die.” That’s what God said (Gen. 2:17). To ‘surely die’ means, “In dying, you will die.” Meaning physical death is an effect of spiritual death; so God was talking about a spiritual death, and Satan called God a liar.
And all those while, Adam was with her and he ate of it too. That was what Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy;
1 Timothy 2:14 NLT
And it was the woman, not Adam, who was deceived by Satan, and sin was the result.
And our verse for meditation says that when Adam sinned, sin entered the world and corrupted the entire human race and death was the result.
It was never about the eating necessarily. It was about the instruction, basically.
PRAYER:
DEAR LORD GOD, I SUBMIT MYSELF UNDER YOUR GOVERNMENT AND AUTHORITY. PLEASE HELP ME TO ALWAYS KEEP YOUR INSTRUCTIONS. AMEN!
DECLARATION:
I AM A MAN UNDER GOD’S AUTHORITY. THEREFORE I AM NOT REBELLIOUS.
