30 DAYS DEVOTIONAL WITH PREACHER SAM
September 11, 2023.
Topic: THE SUPERNATURAL LIFE
Bible Reading: Ephesians 1:15-23
Verse for Meditation: Matthew 10:8 TPT
You must continually bring healing to lepers and to those who are sick, and make it your habit to break off the demonic presence from people, and raised the dead back to life. Freely you have received the power of the kingdom, so freely release it to other.
What is a supernatural life? This is a life that is considered beyond natural.
Before the fall, that was man’s natural life. But because of the fall, the new man is seen as one living a supernatural life.
The first person that man heard after he was created was God (Gen. 1:27-29). Before the fall, man had constant fellowship and direct encounter from God daily (Gen. 3:8), also before the fall, there was nothing like sickness, hardship, pain, stress or death. They all came on account of the fall.
So when people hear of a man that hears God every day or has not fallen ill for years, or does something with so much ease, when others struggle, they feel that that’s unnatural. Whereas, this supernatural life should be our natural life as new men in Christ.
I remember preaching a beautiful sermon in August, 2021, in a campus fellowship vigil. I preached on the topic; knowing God, and I remember citing instances in the Old Testament of some heroes of faith who lived this supernatural life.
Abraham had a radical faith and walked in strange dimensions with God. Moses without the Holy Spirit in him (though he had Him upon himself) had constant fellowship with God to the point he became radiant of God’s glory (Ex. 34:29-35); this happened also in Jesus (Matt. 17:2; Lk. 9:29), and also in Stephen (Acts 6:15).
Then we saw little Samuel who was not properly disciple at that time how to hear God’s voice, hearing God (1Sam. 3:1-4). Or the teenage boy called David, slaying the mighty Goliath (1Sam. 17). Or Samson with just the Holy Spirit upon him doing the supernatural naturally (Judg. 14:6; 15:14-15; 16:3). Or even Elijah calling down fire (1 Kings 18:36-38), and teleportation was a normal thing for Elijah (1 Kings 18:7-12, 46). Elijah even held back the rain for 3½ (1 Kings 17:1; Jam. 5:17). Both Elijah and Elisha raising the death (1 Kings 17:17-24; 2 Kings 4:32-37). And nothing was secretive to Elisha (2 Kings 5:25-26; 6:12).
These people were not born again; neither did they have the Holy Spirit within them. The Bible even said of them that they all had a good testimony through faith, yet did not receive the promise we now have; something better, that they without us should not be made perfect (Heb. 11:39-40). Yet they lived a supernatural life, how much more for the new man in Christ?
The Holy Spirit in us was what they longed for, but they didn’t have it. Yet they live out the supernatural life naturally. See, we are on a better side and advantage than they were. So what is happening?
I love how The Passion Translation puts our verse for meditation; healing the sick should be our lifestyle, casting out devils should be our habit and raising the dead should not be a challenge to us. But we are not to go after these things, those are not our focus. Our focus is to follow Christ; know Him and make Him known. Then these supernatural signs will go after us because we believe (Mk. 16:15). We should always expect them to happen in our lives but we are not to change our focus of revealing Christ to our world.
The reason why they look and sound strange to us and feel that the supernatural life is for a selected few, is because our eyes of understanding has not yet been flooded with light by the Holy Spirit, so that we can know and understand the exceeding greatness of God’s mighty power that is at work in us. And that we are actually above all (being supernatural). That was Paul’s prayer to the church in Ephesus.
The tiny line that divided us from those living out the supernatural life naturally is actually the God-consciousness. It is not because they fast and prayed for it, even though those are important. But because they grew in the God-consciousness of whom they are in Him.
PRAYER:
SPIRIT OF THE LIVING GOD, PLEASE FLOOD MY HEART WITH YOUR LIGHT THAT I MAY BECOME FULLY CONSCIOUS OF THE GOD-LIFE IN ME.
DECLARATION:
I BECOME CONCIOUS OF GOD’S SUPERNATURAL LIFE THAT IS AT WORK IN ME.
Bible Reading Plan: John 9:13-10:21; Romans 11; Proverbs 11
