THE DEVOURING LION VS THE LION FROM THE TRIBE OF JUDAH
Lions, an author explained, are legendary for their strength, beauty and fearlessness. The lion has been called the king of the beasts and the king of the jungle, and, in the Bible, Jesus is called the Lion of Judah.
Revelation 5:5
[5]But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.”
The Lion symbolism expands our understanding of baby Jesus in the manger.
Luke 2:7,11
[7]And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Glory in the Highest
[11]For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.
And for this cause, the world has set aside this day for us, Christians, to celebrate the Word—our Saviour Jesus Christ; the Lion from the tribe of Judah; who is the King of not the jungle, but the King of all kings, becoming flesh.
Revelation 19:16
[16]And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND Lord OF LORDS. The Beast and His Armies Defeated.
That was why King Herod and all Jerusalem were terrified (Matt. 2:3). “A lion has roared! Who will not fear...” (Amos 3:8).

The Bible also referred the devil as a Lion—a devouring lion.
I Peter 5:8
[8]Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
Before we continue, let's understand some terms used here.
“sober”, as Eugene Peterson; the author of The Message Bible, writes, “a cool head”. The Amplified Bible also paraphrased that as “well balanced”, which means “self controlled”.

“vigilant”, another word used here, means “to stay alert”, according to Eugene Peterson's The Message Bible. The Amplified Bible added the phrase, “... and cautious at all times...”
“devour”, another word again I would love you to pay attention to. It means “to swallow whole”, like the fish did to Jonah: it's the same word in Jonah in the Septuagint.

In other words, our adversary the devil—the devouring lion, wants our destinies destroyed, and our lives destroyed.
John 10:10
[10]The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
“... seeking whom he may devour.” explains that unless we give him a chance, the devil cannot devour us, Christians (Eph. 4:27).
That's why Apostle Peter wrote to us, the Church, that we should not be careless, but we should discipline our bodies and be watchful as we pray. Fine, we are more than conqueror through Christ—the Lion from the tribe of Judah (Rom. 8:37). But verse 9 says, “Resist him, steadfast in the faith...” And the only way to resist him is by being submissive.
James 4:7
[7]Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
Verse 8 shows us how to be submissive to God.
James 4:8
[8]Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Drawing near to God involves our total surrender and obedience to His Spirit (Gal. 5:16).
And verse 9 also says, “... steadfast in the faith...” In other words we should never for once in our lives give the devil a chance (Eph. 4:27), we should never for once rest in our daily battle of faith (Eph. 6:10-13).
As we celebrate the birth of Christ, which brought unto us our joy and victory, let's also remember our daily fight to a greater victory.
Let this Christmas creates the memory of victory as we approach the new year in 7 days from now.
Blessed Victorious Christmas to y'all!
