WHAT TRUE LOVE IS

“Jasmine,” Jerry stretched forth a well-wrapped gift towards her, “you know I like you?”
Jasmine reluctantly took the gift and said, “No, I don’t.”
“Okay,” he smiled, “I do. Happy Valentine.”
“Thanks,” she chuckled and then took her leave.

This is just a scene of the many things that go on in our society.
“Like,” from my own little study in my community is a euphemistical way of “Love”. They try to make the word, “Love” mild.
But this “Love” that these people try to make the word mild, is not properly defined.
True love is not mere saying; true love is shown by actions (1 John 3:18).
And proving your love is not by buying gifts or “making love”; proving one’s love involves sacrifice (John 15:13; Ephesians 5:2; 1 John 3:16).
The Good Book epitomizes love in God.
“… For God is love.” 1 John 4:8
“But God clearly shows and proves His own love for us…” Romans 5:8
“For God so loved the world, that he gave [His only]…” John 3:16

ARTICLE: THE EXEGESIS OF JOHN 3:16

True love involves sacrificing your time, your attention, your life, your all. It’s not by buying gifts. Because I’ve seen cases where someone was trying to prove his love in anger by citing those good deeds and gifts he had done and bought.

1 Corinthians 13:4-5
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

True love does not expect anything in return. It is purely sacrifice.

And again, never mistake TRUE LOVE for INFATUATION.
Infatuation is common between the opposite sexes. Infatuation is a feeling which arises when one starts experiencing puberty. So having such feelings isn’t bad on its own, because it’s a sign that one is growing. But nurturing those feelings is dangerous.

Song of Solomon 3:5
Promise me, O women of Jerusalem, by the gazelles and wild deer, not to awaken love until the time is right.

INFATUATION WILL FAIL, BUT TRUE LOVE NEVER FAILS (1 Corinthians 13:8).
